Modern Hip Hop

We live in a time where the true Hip Hop beats and rhymes have sadly died. Now a days to me there are two groups of 'Hip Hop', there is American rap and English rap. American rap is more mumble rap. This is where rappers make thier lyrics hard to understand and usually you would have to have lyrics on to understand what they are saying. This is the complete opposite of what old Hip Hop used to be. Old Hip hop was clear to understand and there was very little beat drops or loud music. I think mumble rapping has ruined Hip Hop and there are not that many rappers left that still just rap without any auto tune or loud beat drops that take away the whole meaning of the lyrics. A few examples of mumble rappers are Tekashi 6ix9ine, Lil Pump, Lil Uzi and Lil Xan. Lil Xan recently said that Tupac was boring. He got a lot of hate from people and it made him lose some popularity. I don't mind Lil Xan but he only has 2 good songs in my opinion which are Slinshot and Betrayed. Engl

The Notorious B.I.G

The Notorious B.I.G also known as Biggie Smalls was another iconic Hip Hop artist who's music I really enjoy. He grew up in New York. Biggie grew up with no father and with a mother that worked two jobs. His song Juicy is about how his life had changed so much from when he was a kid to when he was rapping.  He started rapping when he was a teenager. He made a demo tape that was heard and liked by DJ Mister Cee and The Source. He was fetaured in The Sources article which was about aspiring artists. In 1994 he released his debut album which was called Ready to Die and he became an iconic figure in East coast Hip Hop and he made east coast Hip Hop more noticed as at the time rappers such as Tupac, Dr.Dre and Snoop Doog were making West coast Hip Hop dominant at the time. In June 1996 Tupac released a track called Hit 'Em Up' which was a diss track towards Biggie saying that he had copied his style and image. Tupac Shakur

Tupac Shakur is one man that deserves his own post. Tupac was born into a Black Panther family and his rise to fame is something that I admire a lot. Tupac is arguable the greatest Hip Hop rapper ever. The African American community quickly came to love Tupac because he brought a different style of rap. He called his rap 'real rap' because he rapped about the struggles of growing up on the hood and the racism and violence in America at the time. The song that started this 'real rap' was Brenda's got a baby. He wrote the song after he saw an article about a 12 year old who became pregnant from her cousin and threw the baby into the bin. This caused a lot of controversy but it led to him becoming very popular. Later in Tupacs career he joined Suge Knights record label called Death Row Records. Tupac was caught up in a 'bank robbery' where he was shoot and had to be brought to hospital. Tupac recovered from this and a few weeks later he was charged for sexu

West Coast Hip Hop Although people agreed that Hip Hop got its name in New York, a lot of people say that the East coast hip hop culture emerged in the West coast in Los Angeles and San Francisco. West Coast Hip Hop started dominating the sales and the radio play in the 1990s. This came after the emergence of Suge Knight and Dr.Dre who were the founders of Death Row records. The West coast rappers in my opinion are a lot bigger and better than the East coast rappers. The West coast has rappers such as Tupac Shakur, who is arguable the best Hip Hop artist of all time, Dr.Dre, Snoop Dogg and Ice Cube. The N.W.A was a group made up of a few rappers such as Ice cube, Eazy E, Dr.Dre, Yella and Mc Ren. Their album Straight Outta Compton changed the hip hop style. My name is Mattias Hjelseth and this is my blog on the geography of Hip Hop The definition of hip hop according to the dictionary is 'a style of popular music of US black and Hispanic origin, featuring rap with an electronic backing' There are two main areas of hip hop. There East coast and West Coast. Hip hop first started in the Bronx in New York in the late 1970s. There are often disputes whether hip hop started in the South Bronx or the West Bronx. Hip hop was started in block parties that were organised by the Black spades. The Hip Hop culture was spread to both urban and suburban communities.
